Thanks to Kriss Saunders from Arc Adventures for yet another fabulous mini guest blog. This is a series of “best walks in the world”
Bryce Canyon, Utah, USA
A geological wonder of jagged spires that combine to look like a fiery sunset boasting colours of blood-red, dusky pink, bright orange and lemon yellow – Bryce Canyon in southwest Utah is an incredible walking landscape. There are countless trails through the canyon and some of our favourites are:
1- The Rim Trail: 11 mi / 17.7 km, 7 hours, difficulty: easy.
The Rim Trail offers hikers the opportunity to see the Main Amphitheatre from above. The entire Rim Trail extending from Fairyland Point to Bryce Point has several steep elevation changes and is 5.5 miles (9.16 kilometres) one way.
2- Swamp Canyon Trail: 4 mi / 6.4 km, 3-4 hours, difficulty moderate.
Swamp Canyon appears relatively small and sheltered from the overlook, bounded on both sides by fins and hoodoos. This size allows admirers to develop a more intimate connection with the landscape than some of the grander viewpoints may provide.
3- Peekaboo Loop: 5.5 mi / 8.8 km, 3-4 hours, difficulty hard.
The Peek-A-Boo Loop Trail begins at Bryce Point and drops quickly to the canyon floor. This hike is listed as a strenuous hike due to the rapid elevation change and the length. Despite the steepness, this is a spectacular hike through the heart of the park.
The USA has 63 national parks, each with extravagant landscapes and walks for hikers to admire at the pace and difficulty that suits them.
