Technology Can Make Life Easier. But It’s People That Make Life Meaningful.

Over the last few months I’ve found myself thinking a lot about technology and how quickly the world is changing. AI seems to be everywhere at the moment. It can write articles, create images, answer questions, organise schedules and help businesses become more efficient than ever before. As somebody who runs a small business, I can honestly say that it has transformed the way I work. Tasks that once took hours can now be completed in minutes, which means I can spend more time doing the things I actually enjoy. But the more I use technology, the more I find myself appreciating the things that technology can never replace like friendship, shared laughter, a hug.

In many ways, I think those things are becoming more valuable, not less.

The world is becoming increasingly digital. We can message people instantly, join online communities and connect with people on the other side of the world. Yet despite all of this, loneliness remains a huge challenge for many people. We are more connected than ever before, but sometimes less connected at the same time (that makes sense in my head, and I hope I have explained it ok).

Of course Adventure Geek organises walks, holidays and social events, but what we are really creating are opportunities for people to spend time together. The miles walked are wonderful, but it is the conversations, friendships and shared experiences that people remember.

This week also marks the official launch of Adventure Geek Radio. Last week’s episode was very much a test, but so many people got in touch to say they enjoyed listening that I decided to continue. It won’t be perfect. There won’t be fancy jingles or a professional production team hidden behind the scenes. It will simply be me sharing stories from the trail, updates from the community, adventures from around the world and hopefully a few laughs along the way.

My hope is that the podcast becomes another way for us to stay connected. Something you can listen to whilst walking the dog, driving to work, enjoying a brew or perhaps whilst planning your next adventure.

Because whilst technology can make life easier, I still believe it’s people that make life meaningful. And that’s something worth holding onto.
