FAROUT – Navigation App (long distance trails)

If you’ve ever thought about completing a Thru-hike in the US or watched and thru-hiking vlogs chances are you’ve come across the hiking app called Farout (previously known as Guthook). I use Farout for all of my longer hikes, from The West Highlands Way, Hadrian’s Wall to the South Downs Way and of course, The PCT.  The features and details are amazing, especially the comment section of parts of the trail which is live and updated.  A feature I use when taking my own groups on these trails is the “check-in” element.

This navigation app has maps that work offline with no data or internet required after initial setup, there are detailed waypoints and town resupply guides, and the ability to check in with friends and family to let them know you’re okay.  I love it.
