This page explains how Adventure Geek walks operate and the shared responsibilities involved in taking part.
It sits alongside our full Terms & Conditions, which govern bookings, payments and contracts. For full contractual and legal terms relating to bookings, payments and cancellations, please refer to our Terms & Conditions.
Adventure Geek walks are friendly, social outdoor walking activities designed to be inclusive, supportive and enjoyable. However, walking outdoors carries inherent risks, and it’s important that everyone understands their role in keeping themselves — and the group — safe.
Participation at Your Own Risk
All participants take part in Adventure Geek Community walks and events entirely at their own risk.
Adventure Geek Community, its organisers, walk leaders, volunteers and hosts accept no responsibility for any accident, injury, loss or damage that may occur during, or in connection with, any walk or event, including travel to and from the event, unless such injury, loss or damage is proven to have been caused as a direct result of negligence.
By booking and attending an Adventure Geek event, you confirm that you accept these conditions.
Personal Health, Fitness & Responsibility
Participants are responsible for assessing their own health, fitness and ability to take part in each walk.
Walking is a physically active outdoor activity and may involve:
Uneven or slippery ground
Changes in weather
Hills, steps, stiles or road crossings
Shared paths with vehicles, cyclists and other users
If you have any doubts about your ability to take part, you should seek advice from your GP before joining a walk.
Any medical conditions that may affect you during a walk must be disclosed to the walk leader before the walk begins.
Equipment & Clothing
Participants are responsible for ensuring they have suitable clothing and equipment for the terrain, distance and weather conditions.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Appropriate footwear (walking shoes or boots)
Weather-appropriate clothing (including waterproofs)
Any personal medication or medical equipment required
Adventure Geek Community does not provide specialist equipment.
While we aim to be welcoming and inclusive, the walk leader may, at their discretion, refuse participation if they believe a participant is not suitably equipped for the conditions and terrain.
Walk Leaders & Group Safety
Every Adventure Geek walk is planned and led.
A walk leader will guide the route and manage the pace
A first aider or will always be present
On larger walks, a tail walker may be used to ensure nobody is left behind
Participants are expected to:
Follow the guidance of the walk leader
Stay with the group
Act in a way that supports the safety and enjoyment of others
For safety, when walking on roads we follow the Highway Code, not the Countryside Code.
First Aid
A qualified first aider is present on every Adventure Geek Community walk.
First aid support is available for minor injuries or incidents. However, participants remain responsible for managing their own health and wellbeing during the walk.
Walk Leader Qualifications
Adventure Geek walk leaders are either:
Qualified Mountain Leaders or
Experienced walk leaders who have completed an internal Adventure Geek walk leading workshop
Adventure Geek walk leaders are not providing professional guiding, medical or fitness instruction. Their role is to lead the route, manage group safety and create a supportive walking environment.
Dogs on Walks
Dogs are welcome on many Adventure Geek walks, but this is always at the discretion of the walk leader.
Please check individual event listings carefully.
Where dogs are permitted:
A maximum of two dogs per person
No extendable leads
Dogs must be kept under close control at all times
Dogs must be kept on a lead where requested by the walk leader
The welfare and behaviour of your dog remains your responsibility throughout the walk.
Some walks are marked “No dogs allowed”, usually due to livestock, terrain or access restrictions. These notes must be respected.
Children & Young People
Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times before, during and after the walk.
Parents and guardians are fully responsible for the safety, behaviour and wellbeing of the child or young person.
Access & Land Use
Adventure Geek walks make use of public rights of way, public spaces and facilities.
No permissions are expressed or implied by Adventure Geek Community organisers. Participants make use of facilities and land at their own risk and without express permission from Adventure Geek Community.
Walk Leader Discretion
For the safety of the group, the walk leader reserves the right to:
Refuse participation
Adjust the route
Modify or cancel a walk
This may occur due to weather conditions, safety concerns, equipment issues or participant wellbeing.
These decisions are made in good faith and in the best interests of the group.
Acceptance of These Terms
By booking or attending any Adventure Geek walk or event, you confirm that:
You have read and understood this Participation & Safety Information
You accept responsibility for your own safety, fitness and equipment
You agree to take part entirely at your own risk
Adventure Geek is built on kindness, encouragement and shared responsibility.
These guidelines exist to protect everyone and ensure our walks remain safe, welcoming and enjoyable for all.
