WELCOME TO THE ADVENTURE GEEK COMMUNITY
Your first walk – what to expect
Welcome!
We’re really glad you’ve booked your first Adventure Geek walk.
Starting something new can feel a little nerve-wracking, so this short guide is here to help you feel relaxed, informed, and confident before you arrive.
There’s nothing you need to memorise, it’s simply here so you know what to expect.
The Adventure Geek Community is about fresh air, friendly faces, good conversation and enjoying being outdoors, without pressure, cliques or competition.
YOUR FIRST WALK
Let’s get the big worries out of the way first.
- You don’t need to know anyone
- You don’t need to be super fit
- You won’t be left behind
- You don’t need fancy gear
- You’re very welcome to come on your own
Our walks are social walks, not races. You will need to be able to walk around three miles comfortably, but we take a steady pace and regroup regularly.
If you’re unsure about anything at all, just have a quiet word with the walk leader, that’s what they’re there for.
HOW OUR WALKS WORK
Every Adventure Geek walk is carefully planned and led.
- Walk Leader – leads the route and sets the pace
- First Aider – there is always a qualified first aider on every walk
- Tail Walker – on larger groups, a member will walk at the back so nobody is ever left behind
For safety, when walking on roads we follow the Highway Code, not the Countryside Code. This means:
- We walk on the left-hand side, like a slow-moving vehicle
- We allow cars, bikes and other users to pass safely
For those with dogs
- We only allow two dogs per “human” on each walk.
- No extension leads for dogs please.
- We do like to let the dogs off the lead as much as possible.
ICE BREAKERS, SWEETS & THE FUN STUFF
We like to keep things light and friendly.
- At the start of the walk, we do a round-robin icebreaker question
(something easy like “Do you like cheese?”) - New starters always go last, no pressure!
- We stop for free sweets at the halfway point (a much-loved tradition)
- At the end, the walk leader shares a few fun stats, distance, pace, calories etc.
You can join in as much or as little as you like.
PHOTOS & SOCIAL MEDIA
We love capturing memories from our walks and adventures.
- We always ask if you’re happy for photos to be taken
- It is absolutely fine to say no
- If you say no, we make sure you’re not included in any photos
(just let the walk leader know. Rest assured, there is no judgement).
Photos from our walks are shared with permission only on our social media pages.
Your comfort always comes first.
TRYING US OUT – NO PRESSURE
Everyone is welcome to walk with us twice before deciding whether to join the community.
After that, you have two simple options:
- Pay As You Go – £6 per event
- Join the Adventure Geek Community – £12 per month for unlimited events (walks and socials)
(If you attend more than two events, membership works out cheaper, and you can cancel at anytime)
There’s no awkwardness, no hard sell, and no rush. We want you to join because it feels right for you.
IT’S MORE THAN JUST WALKING
Adventure Geek is a community.
Alongside regular walks, members enjoy:
- Social events (meals out, quizzes, theatre trips, cinema, coffee meet-ups)
- Discounts on weekend breaks and walking holidays
- Challenges, pin badges and fun extras
- Member-only walks and experiences
- Monthly photo competition
- A group steps leaderboard
- Join the book club, wellness club or dog club
Some people join mainly for the social side, and that’s absolutely fine too.
You get to shape your Adventure Geek experience in a way that suits you.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Here’s what you can expect:
- After your first walk, you’ll get a friendly check-in email
- After your second walk, we’ll explain your options going forward
- If you choose to join, you’ll be welcomed into the wider Adventure Geek community with access to extra events and goodies
Simple, clear, and no pressure and no long term commitment.
