The Art of Living Alone, and Loving It.

Why I love it!
This book knocked on my door at exactly the right time. Jane Mathews travels through the “solo life” in a way that’s candid, funny (yes, I laughed out loud more than once) and deeply wise. She doesn’t sugar-coat it: living on your own isn’t a consolation prize, and she absolutely smashes the myth that you need someone romantic in your life to be happy.
What I found especially refreshing: there are whole sections on finance, home-life, relationships and most importantly the relationship with you. Mathews writes from the vantage point of a “female of a certain age” (though I firmly believe men will get loads from it too). She reminds us that being solo can be a space of adventure, self-discovery and real joy, not just endurance.
As someone who believes that money isn’t everything, and that rich life means meaning and connection (not just a partner beside you), this book felt like a kindred spirit. She helped me nod in recognition, think “yes, that’s me”, and also feel uplifted: there is beauty and purpose in walking your own path.
If you’ve ever wondered, “Is there more than just showing up for someone else?”, this book gives you the answer. Whether you’re happily solo, newly single, or simply curious about what it could mean to love your own company, this is a book for you.
