🌟 Did You Know?
-
Kinder Scout, which we cross on this challenge, is the
highest point in the Peak District at 636m.
On a clear day you can see as far as Snowdonia, Manchester, and even the Yorkshire Dales. -
The Kinder Mass Trespass of 1932 happened right here!
A group of walkers deliberately trespassed on Kinder Scout to protest against restricted access to the countryside.
This historic act helped pave the way for the “Right to Roam” we all enjoy today. -
The route is often called the “Peak District’s Marathon Hike” —
20+ miles around the valley on one continuous ridge. -
Mam Tor is also known as the “Shivering Mountain”
because of the way its huge landslips have shaped the hillside over thousands of years. -
The circuit takes in not one but seven distinct ridges around Edale Valley —
making it one of the most scenic long hikes in the UK. -
The name Edale comes from Old English, meaning
“Eadha Valley” — Eadha being the word for Aspen trees.
