Dambusters & B29 Wreck – Peak District Weekend
This is one of our Adventure Geek Travel adventures – a weekend where fascinating history, wild landscapes and some cracking Peak District walking come together.
On Saturday we’ll explore Ladybower Reservoir and Derwent Edge, discovering the area’s famous Dambusters history before climbing onto the ridge for far-reaching views across the Hope Valley.
Sunday takes us somewhere wilder. We’ll head onto the remote moorland of Bleaklow, eventually reaching the wreckage of a B29 Superfortress at Higher Shelf Stones – a powerful and thought-provoking place high in the hills.
Led by experienced hill and moorland leader Paul Coxon, this is a friendly and supportive weekend for people who enjoy a good walking challenge, big landscapes and discovering the stories behind the places we explore.
🟠 Active
10–12.7 miles per day · Hills & ascents · Uneven and rugged moorland · Two consecutive walking days
You’ll need a good level of walking fitness and should be comfortable walking up to 13 miles at a steady pace over hilly and uneven terrain. This is proper Peak District walking, but we’ll tackle it together with breaks along the way.
